Key policies
Baggage allowance
1 personal item (18 x 14 x 8 in) and 1 carry-on are included for most fares. Note: Due to smaller overhead bins on regional jets, standard carry-ons are often checked at the gate free of charge (valet service). Checked bags (up to 50 lbs / 23 kg) incur a standard fee depending on the route and fare class.
Change policy
No change fees apply to domestic and short-haul international flights for Main Cabin, Premium Economy, and First Class fares. Basic Economy tickets are generally non-refundable and non-changeable unless a travel waiver is in place.
Check-in
Passengers can check in via the American Airlines website or mobile app starting 24 hours before departure. Airport check-in closes 45 minutes prior to departure for domestic flights and 60 minutes for international flights.
